Convert the SHOW-STATS statement as a runtime stub

Project: Base Language

Problem

SHOW-STATS [CLEAR] writes procedure call and database access statistics to the client.mon file in OpenEdge. It is a diagnostic statement and its output has no meaning in FWD, where JMX serves the same purpose.

FWD parses the statement (KW_SHOW_ST, with the optional CLEAR), but no conversion rule handles it. It appears only in internal_4gl_state_usage in common-progress.rules, which drives a report, and the gap marking in rules/gaps/lang_stmts.rules records it as None / None. So a program which contains it does not have it in the converted code in any defined way.

A program that uses it should convert and run unchanged, with the statement doing nothing at run time.

Work

  1. Establish what conversion currently emits for SHOW-STATS and SHOW-STATS CLEAR: whether the statement is dropped silently, left as a comment, or breaks the conversion.
  2. Convert both forms to a call to a runtime method which does nothing except, at most, log once that the statement is not supported. Follow the existing pattern for statements of this kind, such as SAVE CACHE (rules/convert/database_access.rules).
  3. Make sure the call compiles and runs in every block context the statement can appear in, including inside a trigger and a loop.
  4. Update the gap marking to Full conversion and Stubs at runtime.

Testcases

  • SHOW-STATS. and SHOW-STATS CLEAR. as statements, alone and inside a REPEAT loop and an ON trigger, converting and running without error.
